Especially during this summer season, insect stings and bites can be very common that it may ruin the vacation of the children and any outdoor activities of the family. These stings from insects have been known to send thousands of people to the doctor for severe allergic reactions and there have also been instances in which death resulted from these bites. Stingers to be wary of include the honey bees, hornets, yellow jackets, and fire ants.

In order to enjoy that precious time outdoors and those barbecue parties, here are some things that can be observed to protect the family from these stinging insects.

Avoid sweet-smelling and scented products

Insects are attracted to the smell of flowers so it is no wonder that these stingers would gather around you with that floral smelling perfume or hair spray. If you are planning to spend some time outside the house, it would be best if you refrain from using beauty products that may attract these insects. You may want to do away with perfumes, colognes, hair sprays, and other beauty products.

Cover your drinks

Insects will always be attracted to those sweet beverages. While eliminating drinks during outdoor occasions seem very difficult, the best thing to do is to cover glasses, cans, and other beverage containers. If you have left your drinks without cover, make sure that no insects are inside the container when taking a sip. An insect bite would be a sure thing if an insect is inside that glass. While you’re at it, you may as well include covering the foods to keep insects away.

Always wear shoes

While walking barefoot in a lawn or a grassy area would feel very pleasant, the risk may not be worth it. A number of insects live in the ground and bees may be found in low-growing plants. So exposing your feet without any shoes would be a guarantee of being bitten. If you do not feel like wearing shoes, be sure that your feet are protected from these insects.

Dress appropriately

Dressing appropriately here means wearing the clothes that do not attract these insects. Bright colored shirts with floral patterns are an invitation for these stingers. Much as you would want to wear these clothes, refrain from doing so especially if your place is heavily populated with insects.

Clean out habitats of these insects

Controlling these insects is one good step that can be made to avoid any allergic reactions. If nests and hives are located near your place, you may want these insect homes removed. Other places to check include the gutter, roofs, and tree branches. Making sure that garbage cans are well-sealed is a good step to observe. If removing these insects seem difficult, it would be best to seek the help of the professional who are well-trained in the control and elimination of these pests.
